Sana, 16, a matriculation student, went missing returning from school in December 2015 in Abbottabad, a city situated in 110 KM north of capital Islamabad. Her parents went looking for her in Abbottabad and its surrounding but could not find her.
After two weeks parents got clue from Sana’s cousin that she had a love affair on facebook with a boy in Lahore namely “Mehmood” and she might be eloped with him. Sana’s parents made a contact with Shunila Ruth through a local councilor.
Talitha Kumi took up this case to find Sana and Mehmood in Lahore. Sana’s parents wished to verify if their daughter left on her own or forcibly abducted. Mehmood was traced down via phone call data.
The police raided his residence and found Sana. In her statement to the Police, Sana said that she has converted to Islam and married Mehmood with her free consent. But Legal Aid team negotiated with the police to let Sana talked to her parents. Sana met with her parents in Executive Director Shunila Ruth’s house. They have overnight talks. Legal Aid team also directly talked to Sana and asks if she is happy with her marriage.
She told that she is happy and no question of any pressure and forceful abduction.
Next day, Sana appeared before the court, stated that she is now muslim and married Mehmood with her free will. Although, Sana’s parents were dejected but thankful to Talitha Kumi for the help finding their daughter.
