The Global Gender Gap Report 2017 puts Pakistan on the second-worst country for gender disparity

Pakistan has been ranked the second-worst country in the world for gender disparity. According to The Global Gender Gap Report 2017 published today by The World Economic Forum, Pakistan ranked at the dismal 143 position out of 144 countries.
The Global Gender Gap Report benchmarks 144 countries on their progress towards gender parity across four thematic dimensions: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. In addition, this year’s edition also analyses the dynamics of gender gaps across industry talent pools and occupations.

According to the report South Asia has an average remaining gender gap of 34%. Bangladesh (47) is the only country in the region to feature in the top 100, with India ranking 108 and Pakistan 143. Of the seven countries from the region included in the Index this year, three countries have increased their overall score compared to last year, while four have seen it decrease.
